RECLAIMSTERDAM!

Recently the municipality cunningly evicted Pakhuis Afrika. This cultural free space (social center) offered room to a great diversity of independent non-commercial initiatives that couldn't find space any where else, because big parts of the city have become simply unaffordable.

A clean up operation is in full swing, with bureaucracy working overtime to squeeze all unwanted elements out of the city. Amsterdam has become a city of large scale checks, of plans of city developement that expel the lower incomes from neighbourhoods to make room for luxury appartments. A city where people without papers are imprisoned without reason, where youth is housed in container complexes and prison compounds. Is this the city we want to live in?
